@Zidane: you have a wonderful ability to create stunning and realistic landscape details. I'm quite envious, actually! The painting is very nice but I do have one crit and I think someone else hinted at it. It is the placement of the bear with the shiny. I like the idea but having placed so close to the edge of the canvas can lead the eye out of the painting. Otherwise, well done!

@Morag Congratulations on finishing your fine painting. I should think it will do quite well. Good Luck!

@Tzu: That is incredible news! Thanks for letting us know.

@Minami: Good choice on the background. It really fits the style.

@Stouda01: Cool Grentchie so far! Looking forward to see how yours turns out.

@zidane888: XD Very nicely done!

@stouda01: I really like the detail in the pencil sketch and the transition to the final version. The detail in both styles is exquisite, and I love the expression.

@Minami Kaori; That's just precious, I hope you don't mind if I save a copy of that! The border as you drew it in Post #518 seems perfect, it fits the scene nicely without overpowering it.

@Kiya; I hope you like your artbook. A lot of work went into it and it shows, all the peices look absolutely superb and cute!

Here's an update to mine;

I think I'm close to being finished. I know I mentioned adding an Elf and a Grentch, but overall it seems like they would ruin the atmosphere and the feeling of the image. Really, the entire point of the peice is not to be funny or menacing (which is really the only two directions adding those could go) the image was meant to just depict a quiet, intimate moment between my characters celebrating Wintersday after decorating the tree...though after typing this up I just had an idea I might work in if I can figure out how to do it and have the time.

I added the shadows that Kiya suggested and also added some more depth to the tree trunks. Also added footprints so it doesn't look like my characters are just hovering there above he snow.

It would probably be cheesy to add a holiday message down in the lower right corner, wouldn't it?

I love watching this thread, so much new stuff every day!
and thanks to all for your kind comments!

@ stouda: I'm absolutely stunned by the detailed painting, and will be thrilled to see the final product

@ Minami: much better background/ornament, I like how it's a lot more subtle but still very Christmas-y

@ Kiya: wowsies, that looks awesome! So much work!

@ operative: I really like how your painting is coming on, the atmosphere is lovely! I think it would help if you added some soft, warm glow to the christmas tree (it's already there a bit, but in relatively cold colours). I'd also transfer some of that glow onto the snow and trees around the christmas tree good job, keep it up!

@ Kiya: That is such an uber cool xmas tree!
I totally love the rudi hat on mini Gwen chan, and the naga Such an awesome job!

@ stouda: Ebil Grentch! Looks very promising, the sketch is very cool, can't wait to see it finished

@ operative: Your painting looks so much better now, I love the footprints in the snow, they add such a nice detail/feeling. The overall feel of the pic is so nice and calming, I agree that adding an Elf or a Grentch would disrupt it.

@ everyone who has helped me with advices and commented on my pic:

Thank you SO much!
With this picture being my very first one, I had a lot to learn. I am very thankful for all the advice given to me, it made learning fun and a lot faster than if I had to look up stuff on the internet and test it out one by one.
I will definitely be hand drawing more pictures and work on my technique.
I will submit the last pic I posted.

Thank you all again ^_^

@Minami: I like that frame much better!

@Operative: Yeah, I think a holiday message would take away from the overall atmosphere; it looks great!

@Kiya: That looks great! I think you should take a few closeups of the plushies and some of the skills to include in the entry.

@stouda: Your grentch is still looking great; can't wait to see the finished thing!

Eragon, thats my test Yakkington without his pack on.

Final entry pic will have close ups of the plushies and all the ornaments. I'm going to take all the ornaments off and redo it with all the GW ones more to the front. Right now it was "Here kids, another one to go hang up" "Yay!" "Yay!" *random spot on tree* Kinda wishing we had a real tree this year.

Should I keep the hat on Gwen-chan or make her some new hair decorations and put my kids in the pic next to the tree wearing the hat? Brain is too dead to make more plushies but I might be able to do another hat off the list.

Alright, another sporadic update. I finished the song I'm doing for my niece's contest. The majority of the background music in my video will sound like the music in this song:

http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=1301062&t=3736

I'm re-recording the whole thing fresh for mine, and I omitted the metalcore breakdown and the jazzy finish. Still, the sound will be similar.

You are giving away the punchline on the first frame and the last three are just a very drawn out denouement that is boring because it is completely unnecessary - everything was already revealed in the first frame! Less is more, never add more stuff than is needed to make your case. The idea that you have can be expressed in just one frame and that way you'll spare a lot of work and the end result will be more to the point and thus better as well.

Edit: if you absolutely insist on doing a 4 frame strip with the given idea, then you should not reveal that the events happen in the infamous rabbit hole before frame #3, preferrably not before the last frame. Expand your story so that the first two frames contain an introduction, like Dwayna walking through the forest, noticing a little rabbit freezing in the snow. She decides to help and make the rabbit warm and when the rabbit has thawed it leads Dwayna down to the hole, apparently asking her to help other poor rabbits as well. The punchline (we see the familiar rabbit hole with an obvious Grenth in disguise) can be put to the last frame because the outcome is so obvious that it can be left for the reader to figure out.
Thanks for the comments, they really helped. I like the idea of Dwayna encountering the rabbit away from the rabbit valley first. Back to work for me, still a lot to do .

@FengShuiDove: That sounds great!

@Chyminy: That looks neat! It's a little hard to read the part below "Wintersday," though (the "ten weeks" part).

@Kiya

That looks so cute! My only suggestion would be the photography part of it. I suggest using a tripod or something stable (books stacked up, a table, etc) so that you can get the effect of the Christmas lights without having the background kinda blend in. But that also may mean that you might have to add some sort of light source at the bottom so that the goodies are still the main part of the picture.

Then again if you're just gonna photoshop it you can disregard everything I said. =P
